Walker's War Eagles, a mercenary unit that had risen to great success in the years following the Clan Invasion, was in need of extra transportation and more technical support. In late 3061, the War Eagles' commander, Colonel Joseph "Hammer" Walker, found another mercenary unit that he thought could make them one large, self-sufficient unit, if the two of them merged. The other unit was the 151st Airborne Cavalry, a former SLDF regiment, a unit that had been on the opposite end of the spectrum compared to the success of other former Star League units. The 151st gladly accepted the offer, due to its lack of ground forces and recent drop in contracts, and in early 3062, Task Force Hammer was born.
