All of the above are going to be "archived" on the 30th January 2009, and then you'll have to pay extra to get one cast from the website.

I agree... just a quick glance I spotted a dozen popular sculpts... some which I would like.

ARGUS, Heavy Tracked APC, Striker, Heavy Hover APC, Heavy Wheeled APC, All the Clan Original Omnis, Gunslinger, Kanga Hover/Jump tank, Regulator hovertank, CAVALRY VTOL, YELLOW JACKET VTOL, Badger Tracked Transport, Spartan, Enfield, Thug, Marshall, Avatar, Atlas, Basic IS BA, Hauptmann, Osirius, Chimera, Hellspawn, Thunderbolt NAIS: NONE of these should be retired.

Go to the site and read carefully.

They have a crapload of CBT minis in their line, some of which they sell only a dozen a year. Furthermore, the amount of money needed to get a store section going and restocked is spiraling upward, as the amount of minis increases.

Add to that the resculpts which are making their debut and pushing aside older versions.

Add to that the number of new 'Mechs and Vehicles and troops which are appearing with the advance of the Jihad story arc, and the beginning of the Dark age story arc. These must be manufactured in order to keep the line fresh and interesting to both new and older players.

Add to that the fact that IWM has to keep all this stuff on their warehouse shelves ready to ship at a moments notice... taking up quite a bit of space.

Add to that the numerous fantasy miniatures which, let's face it, probably make up IWM's bread and butter.

And to top it all off, they are not 'retiring' the minis so much as putting them into cold storage and charging you an extra nine bucks for the first one you order from that back stock. Note that if you order ten such items from the archives, you only get charged that nine bucks a single time. The other nine minis are standard price.

Also note that these archived minis will NOT be listed as available on the site. If I were you, I would copy the Archive List to a Word document and stash it on your hard drive. You will need it to order Archived items.

C'mon, guys. With Ebay and our own Trading Forums providing the recycle to a hobby which tends to use miniatures for decades at a time, is anyone really surprised that the recent economic downturn is forcing some of our beloved hobby sources to pull in their horns?

Don't be shocked if Catalyst Games puts off the hardcopy version of Strategic Ops and Interstellar Ops for a year or so. I cannot see them extending themselves so far monetarily when the projected sale of these books would be (relatively) low. Not only is the target group small, not only are these rules entirely optional, but the recession shockwave I have been predicting is about to hit, and everyone is going to be squeezing their dollars real, real, real hard.

Everyone. Even us nerdcore gamers.

This part:

"..but the recession shockwave I have been predicting is about to hit, and everyone is going to be squeezing their dollars real, real, real hard."

Is expecially true when you are starting the new year off unemployed..again...

Speaking of recession I was looking through my newspaper yesterday and noticed the Jobs section. Now here we usually have at least a three page spread or more of job openings, not this time. They had a single sheet of newspaper listings of jobs, and I would say that 30 percent of that was the ads on the paper. It was pathetic and a real sign of the times.

ugh. In the beginning as a retailer I was all for IWM scaling back their list a bit each year to make it easier to stock and keep non-moving items off the shelf. But this is starting to get a bit burdensome. I'd go so far as to say it's actually starting to hurt retailers because more and more customers will end up going direct to IWM because 1-3 of the minis they want/need are now IWM exclusives and can't be found at normal retailers.

p.s. not all of those listed are "newly archived" minis. Most have been gone for sometime.

Ouch! No love for the quad lovers? :(

20-229 BLUEFLAME 10.50
20-230 WHITE FLAME 12.95
20-636 BISHAMON 9.95
20-647 SIROCCO 12.95
20-651 SNOW FOX MECH 8.50
20-652 MANDRILL MECH 9.95
20-655 FIRE SCORPION 12.50
20-656 THUNDER STALLION MECH 13.50
20-918 STALKING SPIDER 10.50
20-974 FENRIR BATTLE ARMOR {8} 11.95

I'm glad I've already got all the ones I need from that list! The only quads I'm short of are the Rottweiler and Sloth BA. I've only included the Mandrill on this list, because of the fluff, because I DON'T consider it to be a "Real" quad! I'm surprised the Barghest, Goliath, Scorpion, Tarantula, and Especially the Great Turtle escaped the list! :? I had the impression people weren't too thrilled with the Great Turtle?

Do you realize several of the Clan Omnis are double-listed?

According to the site, the "Archive Fee" is $8.00, and it only applies to the first mini of Each Individual Sculpt you want. So, if you want 2 Spiders and 4 Pack Hunters, you'd be charged a total of $16.00. That would be $8.00 for the first Spider, and $8.00 for the first Pack Hunter. Sorry Cent, but the way your statement is phrased, it looks like if you order 10 different sculpts, you only pay the Archive Fee once, but you'd actually have to pay it for each different sculpt. There's a BIG difference there between $8.00 and $80.00!

Lonestar - Good Luck with the interview! I've crossed my toes for you! I'd cross my fingers, but I have a hard enough time typing as it is, without them being crossed!

Wow. It is like whole tech readouts worth of figs are going away. I understand that some figs probably don't sell but 8 or 9 dollars extra per sculpt? How about a longer wait time and maybe 8 or 9 dollars for an order that contains figs from this list. That to me is a total lack of customer service.

Someone said that their bread and butter is probably fantasy figs. Do people actually buy figs from their other lines? I mean I am sure there are some sales but just based on their show special figs and the way their displays are set up it sure seems like Battletech is thier bread and butter.
Been a fan of CBT since 89.
