Overview:
Amid the chaos of 3073, with the Word of Blake Jihad plunging much of the
innersphere into vicious war, a new sub-series ‘mech design was unexpectedly
released for sale by the Earthwerks Incorporated facilities on Asuncion. There
was little fanfare to the new design's release, which was billed as an
"extensive upgrade to our venerable classic: The Thunderbolt."
The small number of units available for sale did not attract much attention
from the campaign armies of the major houses, so most of the limited supply of
‘mechs were sold to willing mercenary units and small planet militias, though
usually with suspiciously limited information about the ‘mech's origins. One
thing was certain; the Thunderbolt 2 had not been manufactured on Asuncion
(their eclectic mix of electronics and other systems were proof enough of that)
and they had not been directly built by Earthwerks. Logos and documentation
with the brand-new units listed their manufacturer as "Sovereign MechWorks." A
firm no one had ever heard of.
Attempts to trace the exact origin of the design or the identity of this
apparently new ‘mech manufacturer were met with an information stonewall from
Earthwerks. The Thunderbolt 2s were sold no-questions-asked, but also with
no-questions-answered.
Capabilities:
The basic design of the Thunderbolt 2 points directly to its parent 'mech:
rugged and durable with a smooth mix of weapons covering a variety of ranges. A
number of special systems round out the design however, expanding its role past
that of its forbearer.
Long range firepower comes in the unusual form of an (appropriately named)
thunderbolt-15 missile launcher mounted on the left shoulder. This weapon
provides excellent range and punch through the use of a single, high-powered
missile in the place of the typical salvo. For mid-to-close range work the
Thunderbolt 2 carries a massive LB-20X autocannon its right arm, a versatile
weapon useful in many different circumstances. 3 extended-range medum lasers
below the missile launcher directly supplement the autocannon.
In a pinch, the Thunderbolt 2 is more than capable of defending itself in
hand-to-hand combat. Triple-strength myomers allow it to move surprisingly fast
as well as throwing potentially fatal punches and kicks. A 90 meter jumping
range helps to keep enemies off balance and access normally impassible terrain.
In fact, the units speed and mobility can come as a deadly surprise to many
enemies, who mistakenly assume that this unit should be slower than its parent.

The second variant drops the LB-20X in favor of a Heavy PPC and five extra double heat sinks. The remaining tonnage is allocated to armor. Although not as deadly as the primary variant this version is better suited for extended engagements.

I know you must be aware that a Thunderbolt weighs in at only 65 tons, or is its because its a mark 2 it gained a few extra tons. Personally i sticking with the original weight and will be using the miniature as a Royal Starleague variant. zac
