A BTU story collection?

Coinsidering the problems the TRO is running into, this maybe a bit problematic....

We have a large selection of fiction here on BTU. Why not take some of the stories and published them a PDF format? Maybe include a couple of stories especially written for the collection. It might be easier to put a story collection together. Smile

It was a thread gauging the interest in a PDF collection of BTU stories. The poll had 8 people "for", 0 "against", and 3 people "maybe". I think if we go this route then we have to make sure that some strict guidelines are set down and we have to limit the number of "chiefs" in charge. Actually, I am for it if we have the interest in doing a BTU Fanfic Collection.

Well, how about a three person comittee to go through the backlog and pick of several stories from the collection, then have a contest for a couple more slots. It could be 'best of' or have a theme-based selection. Or the comittee selects fifteen of the best and everyone votes on the, say, top six, with two more from a contest (A mix of old and new)

Or, if we wanted to take it to another level, publish the PDF under the Argent Fire logo...(A suggestion, nothing more Wink

)

I like electing a committee going through the fiction forum and looking for several stories and then holding a contest for a few more.
Basically the committe i think should be Craig(trboturtle) and Steve(typhoon) bc they are the most, idk if this is a good word, "experience" i guess when it comes to fan-fic stuff. Not counting the results of the latest fiction contest Wink

I would definitely enter a contest for a spot in a Best of BTU fiction PDF, that would be awesome

I just also think its funny that at the precise moment im writing this all three of the contest winners are on. Laughing

That works for me. I would also say that all past Fiction contest winners and the runner's up be included in the possible stories. Not to exclude any stories written for the site.

The Argent Fire thing would have to be run by Pete but I see no reason not to ask him if it was okay. All he could do was say "no". Good suggestion.

I am fine with being on the committee if chosen to do so. However, I will not suffer through the agony the TRO guys have gone through.

If I am asked to be on the committee I will push for some strict guidelines to be followed. Guidelines like the committee initially chooses the stories; the committee runs the show and has the final say on the stories with input from the membership; stories will be reviewed for errors and corrected but any stylistic changes will be done with the author's permission and input if possible. I am sure there are other guidelines the committee can think of to be proactive.

I also like the idea of having a contest to add a few more stories to the collection.

You've been around here far longer than I, so I've no doubt that you can learn from their mistakes and recruit only the best of the best of the best.

No, seriously. I volunteered to edit some people's work for them, after they complained bitterly that no one would do so. I waded through a Fan TRO that was downright painful to read, and began to clean it up.

What I got, after the initial work, was a vast enigmatic silence. I never heard from the SOBs again, despite their pleas and despite my hard work.

The sad truth is that most of the folks you meet online have passive-aggressive tendencies, and most can't or won't take criticism of their work, no matter how diplomatically it is presented, and especially if you are right in your suggestions.

If you can navigate around that, Ty, I will support you all the way. Consider me for the board.

I'd support both Steves and Craig for the board choosing the stories, or having the final say in the stories is more the correct term.

I think this would really be a lot of fun.
