Batteries, Batteries Everywhere...
and naught a one with a charge.
:?
This equipment I work with uses a battery.
12 batteries, to be exact.
And we had some equipment out for tests.
for about 2 weeks.
Non-stop running.
which requires about 3-6 battery exchanges per day.
multiplied by 60-70 pieces of equipment.
:?
so yeah. I'm the battery (hazmat) disposal guy too.
And I'm currently up to my tukus in dead batteries.
you do the math.
 yah. that's a farkin' LOT of batteries.
And they all have to be 'prepped' for proper disposal.
THIS is the MODERN US Navy... who has a procedure for EVERYTHING.

:!: short story = work is kicking my tukus. :!:

PSA: Periphery Weapons Factories kick into high gear...
http://www.popsci.com/technology/articl ... yan-rebels

Must.
Figure.
How.
to.
incorporate.
into.
a mission game.

All of an ATLAS' weapons,
without the ATLAS.
Now that would make for an interesting swarm attack...

It's late. I'm really starting to go scatter brained. *Quiet, JEFF!*
Catch y'all tomorrow.

I do hope everyone has finished their Christmas gift shopping.
Just remember, I do have my eye on a particular chess set....

It's only a measly 5 million ... UK pounds. ($9.8 million USD)

Or I could go for a new pocketknife...

or maybe a new Louisville Slugger...

and definitely a new set of lights.

Hello All,

Just found a few sites worth checking out and a mystery AFV....

For definite giggles and seriously wishing these people did business in the USA...
https://www.kulula.com/info/aircraft-pi ... llery.aspx
KULULA AIR.

and then... the mystery AFV.
Image
another angle
Image

It looks a bit like the Howe&Howe Ripshaw tank
Image

which, combining the two and UFV technology, gets us this...
Image

but either way... I'll find out what this is. My Google-fu is strong.

Hello Dear Readers...

I haven't forgotten about my blog.
At the moment I seem to be fighting some chest crud/cold ...blugh..

I came across these slightly violated/modified Christmas carols the other day.
before I hacked up a lung, I got a hefty laugh from them.
http://www.cs.duke.edu/~zheng/btechsongs.html

Also, something really cool: Automated Defense Turret prototype...
http://gizmodo.com/5412812/autonomous-b ... s-own-good
really... watch the YouTube video: it's really cool.

Finally:
somebody got a really cool Christmas gift. I'm sooo jealous.

Also,
I found out that RPGsheets' vehicles are selling HOT and FAST.
Better grab your favorites as fast as you can.
Trust me, each one is definitely worth the $$$.

Now I'm off to dose up with Nyquil for a decent night's rest.
Yall take care out there.

Hello my dearest readers...

Having some personal health issues IRL at the moment.
Regular posting will continue once I return to regular.

my ugly review of the Velocity Micro CRUZ tablet may have been a bit ... premature.
I'm starting to get the hang of it, very slowly.
I've even managed to lurk our site.
but geeee-eezz... it's so slow and buggy.
makes for a decent eReader tho. Would be better if I could have a page turn button instead of wiping the touch screen 50 times.

Anyway. I'm wiped out.
Catch y'all sooner than later.

Hello again Dear Readers...

I'm not usually one to discuss politics here on BTU;
but I've no problem with stating the fact that most Americans feel we are in a serious slump.
Watch the video and listen carefully to the lyrics.

that is all.

Dear REaders...
I promise to stay further away from the political realm. ...further...
But I'd like to point out that IOWANs can count better than FLORIDIANs.... 8 vote difference and nobody has started a lawsuit ... or a war.
I love America. Look Ma! No hanging chads!

Would wearing a Case of these in the woods still be considered as going "skyclad"?

Altho these could possibly get somebody charged with cannibalism...

Look ma! They'll never find me on the basketball court...

Fear not my long suffering readers...
I will return to posting about building and painting my collections of all things Battletech.
but currently, it ain't in a photoshoppable condition.
that is, not even photoshop can hide all my clutter.

But y'all keep up the good work.
Even James' abominations of "Hello Kitty" are good work.

Greetings and Best Wishes for a Happy New Years!

Well, in between my home healthcare duties of the past week, I did find time to start reorganizing
my collection of MWDA minis. I've got alot. If I ever find someone who can teach me to play MWDA,
I'll be set for minis. After sorting out the minis to trade or sell, I'm left with a mixed MWDA light regiment.
40 Mechs, 20+ Vees, and 60+ stands of varying types of infantry.
99% of which are ELITE/Unique ratings.
and that ain't counting the Infantry Regiment I've built with hacked/rebased/repainted MWDA infantry.
Methinks I need to build some storage space.

Today's post is very heavy on interesting images. My own camera seems to have taken ill, and I don't know what's wrong with it.

Coolest Pic I've seen in a long time:
Osprey on the Attack
Image

(i really, really like this pic. The Osprey is Totally Committed, Absolutely Focused ... and you know some fish is about to get totally Frakked Up. )

and from Brent Paull's fine art collection... (really awesome>check it out! http://amwestphoto.com/ )
Image

ooohhh, looky! A WoBBie signet ring!

I don't know whose MPs these are, but they be pimpin' while they be rollin' ...

Last pic for today... SOMEBODY tell me how this is possible?
http://lh3.google.ca/abramsv/R52Ksu9Hje ... 7e32_o.jpg

Finally, my one resolution for this year ... be prepared and rebuuild my emergency kit.

http://emergency.cdc.gov/preparedness/kit/disasters/
http://andysredneckramblings.blogspot.c ... loads.html

That's all for today.
Y'all can go back to your painting.
I've got to go back to work.

*whap-crack* BACK TO WORK, WAGESLAVE!!! *whip-crack*
http://artofmanliness.com/2011/10/17/ho ... tuff-done/

Stay safe my friends.
Until next time....

Hello Dear Readers,

Just need to make some clarifications...
1. the blog listed below is not mine.
2. I only found the blog listed below, today.
3. I didn't poach the name of the blog listed below.
4. I do think that it is a really cool, very interesting blog.

without further ado...
"Steve's Random Musings on Wargaming and Other Stuff"
http://steve-the-wargamer.blogspot.com/

And since I'm on the "let's google "wargaming blogs" and research the results" shtick...
The best representation of my workspace I have found.
http://iron-mitten.blogspot.com/2012/01/man-cave.html
and another really cool blog.

oooh, a Painter from Down under and the other side of the world...
http://www.tabletop-terrain.com/
Good stuff and highly informative.
And for my non-Continental US readers, someone's trevails that you can relate with.

... just a reminder ... it's getting closer to the grown-up's Christmas: "tax refund season"!
I'm already working on my "Christmas List" of things I want after the bills are paid off...
that is, if I have anything left. :?

Keep painting.
Hundreds of paint supply jobs depend on us.

Dear Readers...

how about a blast from the past...

Battletech: the animated series
found on YouTube.
here is the link to episode 1.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YqzEssjkMeU

I hope to make it to MARSCON this weekend... but no guarantees.
IF i can, I'll try to get some pix.
16 straight hours of gaming ... there ought to be something worthy of photography.

Here's a link to HULU and their discussion of the then new 'Mechwarrior' trailer....

 I really do wish those [deleted] [deleted] at Harmony Gold would pull their thumbs outta their arses and allow for Somebody to use the UnSeens...

Anyway, it's been a tough day.
I'm beat and headed to bed.
Y'all take care out there.

Dear Readers...

So it seems that I won't be on travel for the next few weeks as I had originally thought.
Which sorta sucks.
:? sorta :? no, actually, it REALLY sucks.
Weeks of preparation and buildup, and I get told at the last minute to stand down.
If the locale to be visited had been Minot, ND, I'm sure I'd still be going.
But nooo... certain somebodies want to frolic/vacation on the company dollar.
 grrrr....

Sometimes life hands you lemons, and there ain't no making lemonade of them.
So I had planned to wear Island wear to work today, just as a way to quietly protest.
Well, it's way tooo cold for Bermuda shorts. And my white, white legs ARE a sight to be missed.
So just an Islander shirt today.
And I'm gonna be in a great mood, no matter what, today.
really.

Sometimes, Life is just crappy. It's up to each of us, personally, on how we react to it.
Some people crack up and suffer emotional break downs.
Some people get emotional and do Very Stupid Things.
and then some people take the musician's approach. (or the British approach)
Sure, Life sucks, but I'll make the best of it anyway ... just to spite fate.
The Musicians of the Titanic are legendary for this...
The ship is holed and sinking ... passengers are getting chaotic ... we've little chance of survival ... so let's play a tune anyway.
Titanic survivors are nigh forgettable.
Titanic victims were mourned and forgotten.
But the band of the Titanic will never be forgotten.
Simply because they decided to make the best of their fates.
http://www.webtitanic.net/framemusic.html

The fact is, it's all about how each of us determine what our actions will be when Life has a sucktaastic moment.
This situation sucks, there naught I can do about it, but I will and do control my reaction to the situation.
So that ELE asteroid in your life? Put on your best suit and give that rock the bIrd just before impact.
And make sure you blog about it before you do...
It's therapeutic and entertaining.

Thanks for your time.
I'll post something more BT related later on...

Greetings, My Friends... friend? hello? anyone? spambot?
unh. either way, it's me and the ether...

I probably won't make it to MarsCon.
I hope somebody who knows me can.

A co-worker sent me this ... my mood is well-realized here.

There is an old Irish proverb:

“May those that love us, love us.
And those that don’t love us,
May God turn their hearts.
And if He doesn’t turn their hearts,
May He turn their ankles
So we will know them by their limping.”

And, if I had my way ... I'd get one of these with my tax return.
Wishful thinking, I know...

Not that I'm feeling POSTAL or anything. Disappointed, yes. Postal, no. I just think it's a uber-cool rifle.

anyhow ... gotta go.
Y'all take care.

Greetings fellow Earthlings!

I did get the opportunity to visit MARSCON.
A good time was had by all.
Unfortunately, my camera is still on the fritz.
I'm thinking I'll have to replace it.
The Son&Heir and I got to play thru 3 complete scenarios, and for ONCE, my dice didn't hate me.
How good were my dice? how about a hit % of nearly 80% :?:
 oh, but when they failed me ... it was spectacular.
 Spectacularly Funny.

Here's a quick laugh, borrowed from GROGNARD over at the CBT forums...

During a tactical exercise one day, The Captain tells his company of Mechwarriors to stay undercover, so that the enemy team won't spot them.

All goes well until one rookie Mechwarrior steps out from behind the sheltering rock face, and proceeds to charge the enemy's left flank.

Of course, after a few dozen meters, every enemy 'Mech spots the advancing Warhammer and proceed to plaster it with simulated missile fire, low powered energy weapons and autocannon paint rounds.

The Captain is absolutely ahgast and dumbfounded by the rookie's lack of tactical skill; so he calls an immediate pause to the exercise and opens a radio channel to the Rookie Warhammer pilot.

"!!WHY!! Why did you do such a foolhardy thing!" screams the Captain! "I told you to stay out of sight of the enemy!"

...silence on the radio...

"Answer me, Mechwarrior!" "Give account for your foolishness!", froths the Captain. "I told you to stay out of sight of the enemy!"

Finally the rookie pilot answers: "But sir, I did as you said...."

"How do you figure THAT!" bellows the Captain.

"Sir, it's my Mech... it's a Warhammer" replied the rookie.

Yeah, So What?

"Well sir, it's a -6R."stammered the Mechwarrior...

"It's an UNSEEN....."

ROFL...

Dearest readers,
welcome to todays' post.
this may be shortened due to blood loss.

Yes, I worked on one of my projects last night.
Yes, I injured myself.
Yes, it hurts still.

1st new project of 2012 is...
a homemade dropship, of maybe 1/650th - 1/800th scale, as previously mentioned.
Yep, I'm too cheap to buy a nice spheroid dropship from IWM.
So I'm attempting to make my own.

Today, I report limited success.
Today, I have a spheroid ball, mounted on 3 landing legs, with a completed nose cone.
No it ain't pretty. Sadly, the camera is still on the fritz.
 but I do have a camera phone
I'll try to get pictures tonight.
I still need to add sensor antennas, weapons blisters, and loading bay doors.
Once all that is done...
I'll need a nice warm day to take it out and primer it.
I'm thinking either black or a dark gray. Final color should be a light light grey.
but we shall see.
right now I'm dealing with fingers covered in nicks and cuts.

But I did learn some lessons during the build.
1. sculpty needs direct heat to cure properly.
pouring boiling water into a plastic vessel in an attempt to bake the sculpty on the outside of said vessel ...
does not end well. The plastic melts before the sculpty hardens. !@#$!

2. sculpty can be cured over an open candle.
(DON'T try this at home kids!!! I pay the insurance, and I'm a fully qualified idiot.)

3. plastic bottles are highly resistant to cutting, slicing, sawing or shaping of any type.
the same cannot be said of the human fingers.

4. Gorilla glue performs well with a variety of different materiasl, even at the same time.
However, the glue is slow to dry. Once dry, it is very hard to remove from the skin.

Gotta run for now. More lessons later.
Y'all have a great day and be safe out there.

Hello readers...
please consider this as Thursday's post, for it looks like tomorrow will be vedy busy for me.
I did manage to get some pix of my dropship WiP.
Please pardon rhe crappy pix, it's a cheap cell phone camera.

Image

as you can see, I'm doing a 3 legged dropper.
I'm hoping that a decent paint jogb will cover many flaws.
luckily, I've got a decent supply of these bottles; and walmaert has lots more.

the inverted cone on rhe top is the nose cap.
the sculpty was hotter than I realized, and it actually melted trhe plastic a bit.
I'm guessing it to be 1/700th scale, because a Mech's head will come to the top of the landing gear door.
but who cares.... tis but a representation.
when finished, it will cover an area of about 4-5 hexes.
I am working hard on this, because I intend to enter it in the painting competition at HISTORICON 2012.
either this one or a second ... because a second model is usually betrter for all the lessons learned.
and sorry for the bad spelling.. band aids make ahrd to type.

The Son&Heir has beenhard at work being creative recently...
how many of y'all have scratch built Mech Gantrys, complete with a crew revbuilding a Mech?

Image

and from the other angle....

Image

and he built it in ONE evening.
Methinks, given the tools and the time, Son&Heir might give Spaceman Spiff a run for the money... :D

well that's all for now.
Y'all take care out there.
Keep a painting....

Greetings, Dear Readers...

the following is not BT related, nor is it political...
but as former law enforcement, it had me blowing coffee thru my nose at 0830 this morning.
really. And French Vanilla is a bwatch on the sinuses.

Hello dear readers,

Sorry for the delay in posting.
Just had some RL issues and concerns to deal with.

Cool things to see...
http://www.strategypage.com/military_ph ... 02741.aspx
aka ..."Very Loud Saber Rattling"

Finally took time to see "COWBOYS & ALIENS" .. thoroughly enjoyed it! 4 of 5 stars!

oops.
work calls.
more later.

***much, much later***

Sorry about that folks.
The modern military industrial complex survives on meetings, conferences and huddles.
There's a DILBERT joke in there, but I'm too tired to hit it.
The dropship is progressing.
It now has weapons and antenna mounted.
And I was able to get a thin coat of grey primer on before the outside temp dropped too much.
I'll post up pix at a later time.

At the moment, RL is kicking my arse all over the pitch.
So y'all have a great one.
Bloggin' will continue....
tomorrow.

Hello All.

Had a friend direct me to this site:
http://rulesformyunbornson.tumblr.com/

There's some really good stuff here.
Some we've all heard before, but common sense reminders help us maintain our common sense.
otherwise, we'd all be Ivory Tower Intellectuals and Clueless.

Some rules I liked...
289. Always address anyone who carries a firearm professionally as Sir or Ma’am.

277. Fish don’t have eyelids. Cast into the shade.

310. Make time for your mom on your birthday. It’s her special day too.

468. When entrusted with a secret, keep it.

429. All guns are loaded.
...and that's enough for today.
I really liked the site: besides the Rules, there are photos and music bits and quotations scattered throughout the listings.

I would like to say that I am NOT this much of a Trekkie.

And until I can get pix of the Dropship WiP...

Have a great day.

My friends and Readers...

My sincere apologies: Wednesday and Thursday have just been nutz around here.
It's just RL being crazy hectic, ya know?

I was able to get a second coat of primer gray on the dropship,
and added a nozzle assembly to the engines.
Hopefully with some paint ... it won't look so... homespun. :?
I know I'm my own worst critic; but still, I'm really hoping I can use the paintjob and details to make the ship POP.
'cause ifn it don't...
I have plenty of blackpowder and cannon fuse.... it WILL pop.

catch y'all at a later time.
