Hello Reader...

I'm doing some research on my reading habits.
Can you guess which books are on my shelves?
http://www.box.net/shared/static/a6omcl ... sn3o8m.jpg

Also, now that we're starting to get into the Fall 'Con season,
and now that the weather is getting crappy, more people are starting to show up to game...
Just remember...
Image

Also,
The ONLY wasted shot is the one you DIDN'T fire...
Image

Also, anyone got $69k they can loan me? I need a new commuter vehicle.
Image

Ah, who am I kidding :?:
Y'all know exactly what i'd spend the money on...
bags to carry my stuff: http://foamcorps.com/The-Ranger-FOBRANGER.htm
more stuff from CGL: http://www.battlecorps.com/catalog/prod ... ts_id=2338
or more stuff from CGL: http://www.battlecorps.com/catalog/prod ... ts_id=2250
or just more Metal Crack: http://www.exodus-road.com/xcart/produc ... 314&page=1

anyway I look at it, apparently I need to find a QUICKDRAW for the newest painting contest here on BTU.
YOU do to.
yeah.
YOU.
Go dig thru your collection and find a QUICKDRAW.
and paint it up.
and enter it in the contest.
DO IT.
you know you want to.
Good Luck then.

Hello Friends,

Found a little something that made me laugh.
http://blog.robballen.com/2011/10/04/p5 ... e-day.post

I'll even be bipartisan: the above could apply to ANY politician: Dogcatcher, Sheriff, Governor, or Congress critter.

oooohh... pretty. Here's some Metal Crack that I would never, ever paint.
http://www.girlsheartguns.com/?p=997

Sorta Cool, sorta Creepy via CRACKED...
http://www.cracked.com/article_19462_5- ... epier.html

And then, sometimes I have no explaination ... Typhoon? A little help?
http://ifundb.com/pictures/cars/cars-707.html

Finally, a little something to heat up the inter-office arms race...
http://www.catapultkits.com/10901

And work is calling yet again.
Catch y'all tomorrow.

oh !@#$%^&! it's been 4, no 5 days since I blogged!
 please forgive me
I plead ...umm... :?
the insanity of RL ?

anyhow, I finally have some time, and I guess this will count as a rare Sunday posting.
I wanted to put this up on Saturday, but I didn't get home until nearly 2300.
Then I had to get some pictures uploaded.
yeah.
Pictures.

Saturday, I had the rare opportunity to game with my Favorite Gamer and some new-ish friends from the ClassicBattletech Forums.
I've really missed spending any time at all with my FG (Favorite Gamer), but the 2.5 hour drive each way gave us alot of time to catch up.
Saturday, we drove up to Glen Burnie, MD to a great little place called GAMES & STUFF: http://www.gamesandstuffonline.com/
It's got a great hobby store downstairs, with a LARGE gaming room upstairs. Highly recommend!
We were able to attend an event put on by the TURKISH PRISON CREW and their 5-6 CBT Commandos.
Yes, your fragile correspondent survived a day with the HELLBIE DICE and the TPC!
Image

The event was called "Son of CommandoThon" and featured the all new: Battletech Puree'
No, NOT Grinder; PUREE'.
It was LIKE a Grinder, in that if you lost your Mech, you progressed up to the next weight class ... but then it got weird from there.
Originating 'Mech selection was blind and randomized.
AND
The group was divided into BLUE and GREEN teams.
BUT
Anytime a 'Mech was destroyed, the teams got RANDOMIZED next turn.
AND
Every turn, the initiative was randomized per player.
ALSO
Every 'Mech was proxied; I drove a NYX during the game, but was represented by a Whitworth.
But still, it goes against the grain to face off against a STINGER when it is proxied by an ATLAS. :?
So then, to explain best:
GRINDER + TPC + Random (sucktastic) Mechs + Randomly changing loyalties + Randomized initiative + HELLBIE Dice = Battletech Puree'

I can tell you, I've never seen such a hive of insanity and goofiness...
Image

But we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves...
Image

(He just keeps GROWING ... and getting better. Now I'll hafta look out for whatever Tactical skills the TPC may have taught him today.)

For example: the old 7 on 2 gang up... and they didn't even bat an eye at the inequity.
you'll notice my Whitworth/NYX (left of picture) fleeing the scene of the crime.
Image

Finally, a portion of the Turkish Prison Crew mob as the game reached its climatic moments:
I apologize for the fuzzy pix, but cheap cell phones take lousy pix.
Also, I was being quick with the snapshots ... didn't want to disturb the TCP from their 'Mech Frenzy.
Image

But I must be going.
The cats are not amused by this delay of their evening snack, and they're making it hard to type.
Image

Y'all have a great weekend.
I'll post more soon.

Hello readers ... just a quick skim through my RSS feeds today has brought a few things to my attention:

*Y'all need to comment more! Really. It's the only feedback I get.

*Recipes I simply must try:
and how can I go wrong with this?
GUN SHOW MEAT SAUCE
http://mausersandmuffins.blogspot.com/2 ... sauce.html
How can it be less than awesome?
It has 2 of my favorite words in it: GUN & MEAT.

*followed by CHOCOLATE BOURBON BROWNIES
http://mausersandmuffins.blogspot.com/2 ... wnies.html
I'm getting fatter from just looking at the picture.

*Time to get DANGEROUS.
Time to GARDEN.
(or dig foxholes)
http://gearpatrol.com/blog/2011/10/03/c ... es-shovel/

*What every MechWarrior needs!
http://gearpatrol.com/blog/2011/07/20/b ... -care-kit/

*Got an iPhone?
Then protect it: this comes highly recommended to me by users in the field.
http://store.magpul.com/product/MAG451/125
For $10,that's a bargain in the protection market.

*A humorous look at the future of Medical Science:
http://www.cracked.com/article_19476_5- ... etime.html
Wait a minute?
Where's the anti-fat and muscle building ray?
I've been gypped!

And yes, I'll be working today; despite the majority of Gov types taking a day off, the majority of us CAN'T.
I really, really believe that all politicians should be paid minimum wage and work at least 1900 hours a year.
but then,
this is my fun time blog and not meant for political rants.

I'll get back to painting soon... I can feel the muse building within me.
that, or its some really bad heartburn.

Catch y'all later.
Tums-de-tums-tums....

Hello y'all...

Was just doing some thinking and figuring...
Came to a rather surprising numbers...

I'm working on a fanon Regiment: the 7th Northwind Guards, aka the Cadre and Cadets of the Northwind Military Academy.
If I complete a full combined arms Regiment with a Wing of ASF, I'm looking at 255 individual stands of minis.
 255
of which, over 116 are vehicles of some sort.

and that isn't even figuring in the companies of
Capellans
Kuritans,
Mariks
Wolf Dragoons
or even the WoB Light of Mankind Level 3 that I'm working on.

I think I need a BIG table to lay all this stuff out so I can photograph it.
And then I'll have lots of photos to spam this site with.... :P
And I know i've got at least another Battalion of Motorized infantry... maybe more.

Anywhooo...
work calls.
Catch y'all later.

Yay. 2 updates in 2 days!

Currently doing some Christmas gift browsing...
Found something I'd like:
http://www.rangerup.com/sheepdog.html
Image

Found something I liked even moar...
http://www.blackfive.net/main/2011/10/my-entry.html

heh  heh.

And yet more RetroFutureness from Japan... :? some of it is just weird :?
http://www.darkroastedblend.com/2011/10 ... japan.html
To my eyes, the evolution from the retrofuture stuff to Robo-Battletech is just natural.

And for those of us who have a hard time getting good photos...
http://gizmodo.com/5849579/point-throw- ... /gallery/1
I think this is REALLY neat idea: I'd like to try one out.

Please file under "I wish I had this much money"...
http://jalopnik.com/5849231/in-his-fron ... -racetrack

and File this under the "Will make you laugh or there is something wrong with you..."
http://mausersandmuffins.blogspot.com/2 ... obile.html

For those of you who know my career choice (and it is not Military Intelligence) know that I fully sympathize with this author...
http://skippyslist.com/2011/10/12/meanwhile-in-iraq/

oooh. A test. Short answer: NO. I am not. Are you?
http://artofmanliness.com/2011/09/12/ar ... war-ii-gi/
I am in shape. Round is a shape.

And finally, something from one of my favorite non-BT blogs, the Art of Manliness.
http://artofmanliness.com/2011/09/28/be ... etiquette/

But hey, when you leave here, go on over to Paint it Pinks' blog: she's got new material up.
http://panther6actual.blogspot.com/
Thanks for the heads up on SPACED, Ashley. :D

Catch y'all later.

Morning Y'all...
Contemporary MechTechs.
I've heard word of this type of thing recently, but everything I've heard said that the manufacturer sent its own techs out to fix their Robots.
So it is definitely cool that the troops are fixing the robots on their own.
http://science.dodlive.mil/2011/10/13/r ... -the-road/
oooh, look: an SRM4 !
Image

OOOH! SHINY!
I found a really cool blog.
A behind the scenes blog of the National Air & Space Museum of the Smithsonian.
(Look carefully JEFF, you might see something of yours. :D )
http://blog.nasm.si.edu/

And I know it sounds corny; but everything in that collection is MINE.
And yours. Well, it's yours if'n you're an American citizen.
But the A/S collection is SOOO cool, I don't really mind sharing it with my 330 million countrymen.
And yes, we like showing it off to all y'all furriners too. (I really need a bucktooth / gap tooth smiley for my redneck moments)
And since this IS a wargamer's blog...
How about a view from inside the cockpit... of the B-29 Superfortress ENOLA GAY.
http://www.nasm.si.edu/imagedetail.cfm?imageID=1629
Oddly enough, for 3 years, I lived less than a mile from the Bombadier of the Enola Gay, Thomas Ferebee.
Yeah. That guy. You know, pulled the frakking trigger on the first A bomb used in anger.
No. I never spoke with him about it. I met him one time at a church/Red Cross event, and again at the local airshow.
So yeah. I've shook the hand of Death. It was attached to a gentle old man who humbly stated that he just did his job and his duty.
Pretty much every combat veteran I've ever met is like that. Humble. Gentle.
and Me? I'm just an USAF brat and a full time civilian who is grateful that such men have served.

Any who...
Back to Science Fiction...
Did you know that the original Starship Enterprise is kept at the Smithsonian?
Image
yeah. Beam me up, Scotty. Really. 'Cause the Force is strong in this One. :D
Image
and NO, I'm not one of those 'either/or' types. I fully enjoy both series.
When it comes to Science Fiction, I'm an omnivorous Fan.
Love it all. :?
Well, maybe not all.. Hollyweird can keep their glittery Vampires and Werewolves.
Why the occult and horror is included in Science fiction is beyond me...

ooh. a new shiny blog...
BAD ASTRONOMY
http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/badastronomy/
And the first thing to pop up is his review of the show TERRA NOVA.
Yep, Jurassic Park in SPAAAAACE.
No, I don't watch it. It might interfere with my BSG and Dr.Who watching.
and watching TOP GEAR.
Yeah. I admit it. I'm a fan of BBC America.
They're proving to be a better SciFi channel than ScyFy.
:P ScyFy :P Gosh, what a STUPID name.

Well, I'm sort of done for today.
Work calls, and I haven't had my coffee fix yet this morning.
Y'all Take care and keep painting.

hey y'all...

It figures: just as the piggy bank is so thin, that it squeaks...
the motherload lands on eBay.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Collection-101- ... 519b638601

Looks like multiples (x5) of every Mech in the original 3025 book.

:? garrrhhhg...

Just call me HULK, cause I'm turning green.

but the Mech Money bank is empty. :(

dear readers,

I just love spending all day outside testing STUFF*.

I'm tired and cranky. Sorry, basically naught to post about tonite.

But I did come across something really neat on the interwebs.

http://www.navy.mil/search/display.asp?story_id=53705

Small laser anyone?

No, I don't think I've ever seen one in person; :? even if I had ... I couldn't tell YOU. :P

But yeah. All day outside. At least it was very nice.

High temp of 77F and a low this morning of 53F, all while being clear as a bell.

Now watch it pour a gullywasher tomorrow.

But I love my job. It's what pays for my Metal Crack habit.

Hopefully catch y'all tomorrow.

Hello readers.
Still working.
Still busy.
*wham* and still listening to the "sound of the future" :D
http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/2010/12/ ... tromagnet/

 the bldg. sorta *buzz-wobbles* whenever the railgun goes off.

So I'm sorta Christmas shopping for my family (and myself), and I came across this really cool shirt...
http://www.604republic.com/prod/blaster_t_shirt
I think it's rather cool, but then, the whole site caters to my inner geek.

And, altho I'm not working in IT support, I still like my computers...
and this one... well... it kicks arse. :D
http://www.gearfuse.com/engine-case-mod ... ble-juice/
but then in Russia, Case might just mod You.
http://www.techmaniacs.net/modding_news/1481/

and ya know... I think I'd be proud to own THIS laptop..
http://www.datamancer.net/laptop-preorders.htm
But at $7500 ... ow

Good news... I've found a way to work in some exercise time AND pay for the electricity whilst I browse....

http://lh5.google.ca/abramsv/R8-0RHH553 ... 2_pics.jpg

And I think that'll do it for today.
Catch ya later.

Guten Tag, dear readers...

Somebody mentioned that I post alot of non-Battletech stuff.
well... that is true.
But the Battletech universe if MORE than just giant stompy robots.
There is a whole, unexplored UNIVERSE of science future fiction out there.
Me, I think that posting about scientific things and thought is representative of that universe.
and since it is my blog and my ramblings...
I'm gonna post about what I think is cool or interesting and then try to see how it fits the the BT universe.
and then sometimes,
I'm just gonna post about random stuff.

How about a bit of political stuff? At least the feudal lords of the inner sphere don't have these type of worries...
just send in a LOCUST loaded with rubber bullets.
http://biglizards.net/blog/archives/201 ... asons.html

And then, haven't I seen this car in canon BT artwork?
http://www.foxnews.com/leisure/2011/10/ ... test=faces

And wether GAS, ELECTRIC, PLUTONIUM or FUSION-powered; I just WANT one...
http://www.foxnews.com/leisure/2011/10/ ... g-in-2013/
ok, I'd like it better like THIS...
Image

Sometimes those "ultra-lite" dropships can be dangerous.

Planning and Scheming for Conventions to come...
the following are all CONS that I am considering attendance...

MACE * 11-13 November 2011 * High Point, NC >> http://www.justusproductions.com/index. ... mace/2/2/2
:?: Nothing in December? Really? Hit me up if you've got info on a December convention... :?:
MARSCON * 13-15 January 2012 * Williamsburg, VA >> http://www.marscon.net/
MUSTER * 3-5 February 2012 * Williamsburg, VA >> http://www.odms-club.com/convention/
STELLARCON * 2-4 March 2012 * High Point, NC >> http://www.uncg.edu/student.groups/sf3/stellarcon/
COLDWARS * 8-11 March 2012 * Lancaster, PA >> http://www.coldwars.org/index.htm
MADICON * 9-12 March 2012 * James Madison University, Harrisonburg, VA >> http://madicon.org/
RAVENCON * 13-15 April 2012 * Richmond, VA >> http://www.ravencon.com/

pretty much, I'm considering any Convention where other BT players may gather.
Any convention within, say 200-250 miles of Washington, DC.
Of the Cons listed above, I've visited StellarCon, Coldwars and RavenCon.
I've been told that BT is played at Marscon and Muster, and I've photographic proof of BT being played at MACE.
Post a comment if you have knowledge of other events, or plan to attend one of the above listed.

Conventions are great ways to meet other gamers and even try out new games.
 dare I speak heresy? nah. I'm a sucker for a rowdy game of MUNCHKIN.
catch y'all later...

Things I did last week...

Travel! I like to Fly. I'd love it, but I'd need a business class seat to do so...
Image
that is Florida ... I think.

Checked work email: sorry, no pix.

Took time to meet a movie star. I'll bet 5,000 C-bills that nobody will figure out who this is...
Image

Got stuck in traffic getting to AND from KSC...
Image

and finally... more air travel. At night. With clouds. Can you picture the picture?
yeah, neither could I.

I do have pix of KSC. I'll post them soon. All the above were pulled from my phone.

Catch y'all tomorrow.

Dear Readers...

as you know, my BIG project is my fanon 7th Northwind Guards, the Cadre/Cadets of the Northwind Military Academy.
But there is just soooo many pieces. And finding some vehicles can be hard to do.
Fer instance: Mobile HQs. I've got 2, and haven't seen/found any more in months.
For that matter, finding SWIFT WINDS and SKULKERs has been a challenge too.
But I recently found a British company that produces OUTSTANDING, highly detailed sci-fi minis:
DARK REALM MINIATURES: http://www.darkrealmminiatures.com/

I picked up 3 different types of their minis thru eBay:
a HALO type light jeep
a halftrack APC
and a wheeled APC.

I think with very little drilling, I can easily turn the halftrack and the wheeled APC into very convincing HQ vehicles for my regiment.
I know that the light jeep will be an excellent addition for making my LEG infantry platoons into MOTORIZED infantry platoons.
But then I'm a bit tempted to use the halftracks to make at least a few MECHANIZED infantry platoons.
choices, choices...

I've got sooo many AFVs to paint and sort... here a just a few that I painted on tonite, and several I think will be headed to PineSol baths.
Image

Self propelled Artillery, Heavy tracked APCs, a Galleon, a Morningstar Command Vehicle (also hard to find), some LRM carriers and two of my favorite Panzers:
the MYRMIDONs.

Anyway... that's enough for today.
catch y'all tomorrow.

Greetings My Friends and Readers;

I hope you all had a great weekend. Mine was pleasant enough.
Sadly, no gaming occured and very little painting happened.

Recently, I picked up a Japanese Macross mini set:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/TAKATOKU-MACROS ... 3f0e1a0173
Sadly, these minis are considered as 1/320th scale, and it does show when compared to standard IWM minis.
Happily, the detail level is very nice.
The set also came with a MARAUDER and a STINGER LAM in full flight mode.
The MARAUDER is awaiting assembly and the LAM is going to be put on a flight base eventually.
I'll use the LAM as a generic proxy for ASFs.
So for less than $30, I got a pretty good selection.

Here we have the ARCHER... as you can see, the Macross mini is about shoulder height to the IWM mini.

And CRUSADERS... same type of size difference.

Again with the WARHAMMERS ... but I think as the weight class increases, so does the size difference.
However, if you'll notice, there are some cosmetic differences in the upper CT.

Happily, with the Mediums and Lights, the differences were negligible.
Phoenix Hawks:

and finally, a STINGER LAM. Yes, I know I put the Laser rifle in the wrong hand... sue me.

To make sure that I don't forget the 'special' nature of these Macross minis, I mounted all of them on coins.
Jordanian 50 fils pieces, to be exact. Where did I get Jordanian money?
8) I cannot say 8)

I don't think I'll make any of these as showpieces, with their lightweight, I believe they will make excellent easy to transport demo pieces.
I'm gearing up to make my bid to become an Official Catalyst Games Demo Agent. (aka Commando)
I'm hoping to get some gaming in next weekend.

Stay tuned my friends ... more ramblings to come.
