Also handy for keeping folks from handling your minis without permission.....

I didnt think you woud had such a high pitched voice for such a big guy Wil :) also i hope you pinned that sucker to that hex base... a very informative painting / chalking turtorial for archiving when its finished, i would like to see a few more close up's at the end of each session to see what you have accomplished and how the mini should look at the particular stage. 8) zac

Well you know the camera adds ten pounds and 4 levels of pitch to you voice..... Just think I sound like Sean Conery when you are listening and everything will be fine.

Adding a darker color into the cracks

Post by Six Speed Death »

I am an amature at best with painting and I was wondering how to mix my paint or how to get paint into all the detailed cracks in the miniture so it looks as if it had shadows. I'm using testors enamel paints and I don't want to just put large black splotches on the mini. Please help, this is what I have done so far

My first suggestion is to switch to arylics they are easier to work with.

#1 way is what is called a controlled wash. A small detail brush with a mix of 2 drops of black ink, 15 drops of water and 15 drops of future floor polish. You may add a little bit more ink if needed but it is better to do several light layers than one big dark one. Paint carefully in the panel lines and areas of shadow.

#2 the finest mircon pen you can find and again carefully draw in the panel lines.

A Third way is to highlight the panels themselves with a slightly lighter shade and that will cause the darker lines to stand out more. This is the hardest to pull off but can look the best when done right.

Hope one of those suggestions helps.

Thank you verry much! I'm already in search of a brush noted in one of the articles, never painted with acrylics before, but I'm always up for learning something new!

Cleaning off Enamel so I can paint with acrylics like a guru

Post by Six Speed Death »

So now that you have helped me so generously, I was hoping that if I soaked the pewter miniatures in thinner the enamel would come off and I could start from scratch using acrylics. is there any negative reprocussions to soaking pewter in Thinner, would any paint stick to the pewter after soaking it in thinner?

I use acetone and engine degreaser all the time .... May take a little scrubing to get some residual paint flakes off, but i have not had it hurt the metal. Thinner may not work if the enemal is completely dry, I would try something stronger like the acetone in thet type of application.

all of the exodus board links don't work. Any chance that they'll be fixed or migrated here?

Nothing I can do about this. Exodus Road is Lawgiver's site. He had a major hack issue recently and is trying to rebuild a major chunk of his site.
