Babylon 5 did have awesome minis, but they tried for too much realism. Sometimes a turn could take 2 hours depending on how many ships and it didnt take many.

Yeah - great storyline. So much fun to be had running around the old Warsaw pact nations. I loved it when they introduced helicopters! And who can't remember the fun when figthing from the decks of the riverboat.
I kind of got out of it once they started releasing all the Stateside based supplemnts and storyline . . . kind of lost something . . .

Oh Yeah, also forgot . . . still break out the old Car Wars game from the mid 80's every once in a while.

Wellll.... I'm old school. I play GDW Traveller and Megatraveller, Millenium's End, Stargrunt II, Dirtside II, Full Thrust, Close and Destroy(modern microarmor), and old D&D(2nd edition is as far as I will ever go!). I also play White Wolf stuff for my wife(I mostly play werewolves) and I play board games.

PS,
Personally, I think Magic, MWDA, any Games Workshop, plus the other "kliks" games were a step backwards in gaming. Ffolks, all they are doing is taking your money because you have to have the more powerful deck, army, etc. I know, most people think the same way about CBT, but you can play CBT with just the basic game and not buy anything else if you want. Those other games, you have to buy everything just to keep up with everyone else!

Only play CBT (Tabletop games) but for computer games I own more then Software Ect. (GameStop for some of those who live in weird area's) ever has stocked. Ever! So dont even ask me to write them all down...
I love going to the school and watching the children jump and scream. They dont know that I'm only using blanks

You name an RPG and I have probably got a character for it some where. Mainly I play LOFR, D&D, and Magic the Gathering. I also play in a weekly LARP that involves live combat.

Ah, it is good to see someone else who goes back to the "golden age" of war gaming. Avalon Hill had some fun games, basic but fun. SPI, now they had games that were great, sometimes hard but great.

I remember playing SPI's "War in the East" and "War in the West" games. We replayed WWII. It was a blast.

I think you're being a tad harsh dumping GW in the same category as the collectible games. Whilst GW does have an incredibly well oiled marketing machine that essentially rereleases the rules at such a time to keep sales up, figure wise it is less of an issue. People who played Space Marines ten years ago can still use there old figures to form an army. Yes, there are some new units that have been released since, but the armies core remains the same. Indeed, as I understand things, the last release of 40k (or possibly the one before) moved the rules back to units of basic troops and away from super munchy characters.

I think that the fact that to play the game you had to do a min. of collecting would move it in to that group. true you don't have to keep updateing your stuff, but you still would have to own a collection.

Agreed. There is nothing like spending money and gaming with total strangers. What are you waiting for, get some buds together and go blow something up already. ;)

Back in the day I played BattleTech, Shadowrun, Top Secret/SI, FASA's Star Trek, and WEG's D6 Star Wars. I also played a lot of hex based wargames, but not so many mini based wargames.

Now, I'm lucky if I can get one BattleTech game a month. I mostly just buy the sourcebooks for ideas for my own campaign I'm writing up.

In the last three years I haven't played any game worth mentioning, partly because of moving to Indiana, but mostly because RL is taking the majority of my time.

But back in the day we would rotate games every few weeks to keep things fresh.

Twilight 2000,
Top Secret/SI,
FASA Star Trek RPG,
WEG's d6 Star Wars (still think these two are superior to todays alternatives),
Marvel Superheroes,
D&D (anything prior to AD&D, although 3rd edition is not too bad),
Car Wars,
Heavy Gear,
BattleTech,
some Home brewed games such as,
Bizzare World,
Mobile Suit Gundam (mostly based on the original series and the OVA's prior to and excluding Zeta Gundam),
Tombstone,
And what ever else caught our fancy that we could write up some quick and dirty rules for!

As for Computer games, i don't currently have a system that'll play modern games, but back when I still lived down south we would LAN Party games like;
Duke Nukem 3d (The Original GOD of FPS!)
Master of Orion 2,
SIN,
Doom,
CastleWolfenstein (Ok, we didn't Lan this one, but it was the first FPS so it got the ball rolling!)
X-wing,
X-Wing vs Tie Fighter,
Unreal Tournament,
Quake II and III
Age of Empires II,
War Craft I and II
Heavy Gear II
MechWarrior III (my personal fav for single campaign, although multi sucked) and IV
And probably dozens more that I can't remember off the top of my head.
I'll be updating my computer in the fall and can't wait to try some of the modern and WWII fps's out. I played the demo of CODII at walmart on the Xbox 360 and was floored! Stunning.

Mostly, I play CAV and Warlord.

For Mecha on Mecha action my favorite is still CBT. For combine arms action CAV excels and I prefer combine arms games.

Outside of wargaming, I recently recieved A Game of Thrones RPG fer my birthday. Low fanstay game set in the world of George R R Martin's epic novels.

For video games I just beat Jakk II and am working on the .hack series. I'm a li'l behind on my PSII games

Twilight 2000
Gurps
Earthdawn
Shadowrun

Used to play all the Warhammer games and Warzone but it died out around here.

Other than that, "Beer and Pretzels" games like Wiz War, Family Business, Alibi, Chez Geek, Lunch Money, and the like. Stuff you can play with a group of friends during a night of casual drinking and have fun. :)
