Design Contest ideas

Post by thecircus » Fri May 20, 2011 9:58 am

Okay ffolkes, mylordkhorne is having a few real world problems that are keeping him from being active here at BTU. So I am going to have a "test" design contest. It will have strict rules about posting comments, as this has been a problem before; along with the usual contest rules.

What I need from the membership is ideas. So, here is your chance to tell me what you want in a design contest

It is not to be set on max weapons loadout or anything of this sort.
We could go on a prototype Mech used in the 4th SW.

That is a good idea.......I would just have to load every thing onto HMPro.

Yes, but what type of XTRO will it be?

Let me think a bit. I have the Corp, Davion, Merc, Kirita, Steiner, Marik, and Liao XTROs. Let me see what kind of format I can think of.

How about an XTRO that takes useless mechs and makes them useful?

Wouldn't that kind of be upgrading and personalization of certain mech, and then some would point out that said mech is not useless in its current stage, or config. Thou I did like this idea personally. Maybe take one design that you call useless and we all build some XTRO from it to improve it.

Maybe list a stockpile of parts and tell the contestant they have to build a 'Mech from those parts?

Like taking an Urbie, and making it do its job better.

Thats why they have things called variant's, the Urbie for example has a couple of half decent variants in my opinion when you consider its price value.

Now this is a novel idea which i personally like, list several parts that must be installed into the design entry, this should be quite tricky to do if the choosen parts have a good amount of weight and or mass to them. :)

That parts idea is a good one too. I can think of a few ideas right now.......fusion engines and Heavy Gauss rifles, or ERPPCs and single HS.

I was thinking of the more obscure items of technology that can be difficult to incorperate into a fixed weght design for exampe patchwork armor, or perhaps different gyro types. So for this contest there would be a pre ordained set weight group for the mech and a selection of XTRO weapon's and tech that the majority (let's say 5 out of 7 items) must be included into the design...

That is a good idea. Expect something by the end of the week.

Sorry for the delay, but Real Life has gotten in the way. I am having knee surgery next week, so I am getting things ready here at home so the wife has things a little bit easier. Expect something around the second week of June.
