So I've been hidden for a while.
I'm not dead. Yet.
This semi-blog is my attempt to inject some new thought and material to our beloved site.
I have never blogged before, so please.... BE GENTLE.

I haven't totally decided on what all subjects I might touch on, so suggestions are welcome.
About Me:
I'm a gamer. I've been playing Battletech on/off since 1989-1990.
I am, and will always be, a STRONG proponent FOR the "UNSEEN" miniatures of Battletech.
I can count on one hand the number of "RESEEN" models are in my collection.
My collection is currently in the 300-400 range of BattleMechs, 200-300 vehicles, 100-200 stands of infantry and a few dozen ASF units.
Oddly enough, I do not have any spacecraft, dropships, warships or jumpships.
That part of Battletech, even as large a portion as it is, just hasn't ever captured my imagination.
I am proud to be a Staff member here at BTU. I've been here a long time, and it is very much my home on the intardwebs.
I am an avid reader of just about anything that captures my interest, so links to other blogs aren't out of the question.
Think that is enough for now. I will try to post new content daily.

Here is a post for a Monday.
For those of us who are, have been, or will, face hard times. (Everyone)

The above applies to all things in life...
your career, your finances, your personal relationships, all those things.
And while I don't think anyone has ever committed suicide over a paintjob, I do understand the absolute frustration when the paint won't lay where you want it.
I believe we all know the feeling of pride and triumph when the final coat dries, and we are left with a finished mini.
Personally, I really look forward to that internal triumph when I finish a unit.
Painting is its own reward...
But compliments after the fact are really nice too.
Everyone on the board knows of my WARHAMMER fetish. But I'll be the first to admit that the classic Warhammer is a a beast to paint.
My first thread here will be a study on the assembly and painting of the Unseen Warhammer.
Will post pics later this week.

Hello Again.
So I spent last evening working on a Warhammer.
methinks I've forgotten how much work goes into one.
so last night I worked on it and took pictures.

Band Aids make typing hard.
got the Warhammer primered,
and while it was drying, managed to slice open my thumb while working on another Warhammer.
OW
following first aid, put a first coat of metallic sterling silver on my project Warhammer.
and then I called it a night.
Part B later on...
Watch out for them hobby knives... dem !@#$! are sharp.

Busy day yesterday and last night.
But I can say from personal experience...
THESE
are really, REALLY loud.
Don't ask: I can't tell. Really.
Still have a band aid on & my personal medical professional isn't interested in hearing my whining.
It's amazing how they can do that... I'd swear I'm louder than the kids.
As for the Warhammer:
It's been modded, primered, gotten a primary coat of silver and has a coat of green ink wash now drying.
?? Green Ink and silver??

OK... time to post some pix of the Warhammer I'm working on...
DIAL UP USERS: BRACE YOURSELF!
First off: my work space... nothing fancy but its enough.
How many Warhammers are in this picture?
As you can see, in the foreground, I have two stripped down WHM-6Rs.
You'll also notice that I'm short of SRM racks and shoulder spotlights.
D'ya see the molding sprues ... those will be handy later.
The standard WHM has a skinnyness problem IMHO.
As seen here, the lack of spacing at the shoulders lends to the arm PPCs being tucked in too tight for anything but a static pose.
I'm not a huge fan of this scrunched look...

So I've found a way to IMPROVE upon the standard Warhammer mini...
find yourself a nice flat piece of mini molding sprue: shouldn't be hard, almost EVERY mini comes with some.
If you snip it down to size....
You can see that it will fit nicely as a spacer.
A few more snips and some work with a file... and you can shape the new spacer to fit in line with the general outline of your WHM.
Glue it into place, then use a Dremel or drill bit to router out the shoulder mounting for the arm.
After the glue dries, you can see the clear improvements...
Now, I've seen this done with BBs or large beads, but my Dremel is currently NonFunctional. (permanently)
Either way you do it, a bit of shoulder spacing adds alot of GOOD to this particular mini.
Well, that is 2 posts for today: tomorrow... more pics of my Warhammer in progress.

Anyway, continuing the mod of a Warhammer - 6R, as I had mentioned previously, I am short of SRM packs and spotlights.
That is when molding sprue comes in very handy.
Cut down to size and pinned in place, the sprue can be formed into passable SRM packs and spotlights.
Unfortunately, this does require drilling into the shoulders of the Warhammer.
Those of y'all with sharp eyes will notice the leftover stains from the red paint formerly on this mini.
unfortuneately, not all of that is red paint, thanks to my incident with the hobby knife.
ONce the glue sets, Green Stuff can be molded onto the sprues to complete their transformation.

I prefer white primer for doing parade schemes, grey primer for camo schemes and/or vehicles, and black primer for infantry.

Good Friday to my Friends...
Yes, I know I'm way late in posting this, and that those of yall on the Eastern side of the Atlantic are berating me for not posting in a timely manner.
Been a bit busy... mostly getting poked and prodded.
Had to undergo a basic physical for work, and I seemed to have passed.
and then they stuck a bunch of needles in me.

I know that compared to some of our other members here at BTU, the 10 needle sticks I received where nothing much.
Did I mention I hate needles? Really, truely do hate 'em.
JEFF! Stop calling me a WUSS. I can hear you from here.
I have been informed that I have yet another, much more strenuous physical to take yet.
and more needles...
When I have more publically releasable info on WHY I'm undergoing testing ... I'll let you know.
probably almost after the fact. Just know for now that it is work related.
anyway... back to my Warhammer project.
My last post left us with a white primered WHM.
My first base coat on top of the primer was Metallic Sterling Silver. Sorry, but I forgot to snap a picture.
On top of the silver, I laid down a custom mix of thinned green ink and lime green paint.
I don't think I quite got the mix thin enough.
Either way, once it has dried, I will brush on a thin black wash.
aha! some of y'all are thinking:
black wash? already? but what about...
My plan is to use the black wash to define the panels.
Then I'm thinking I'll go over the entire mini with a very light drybrushing of more metallic silver.
I'm hoping this will give me the green metallic sheen i seek.
On a side note, American readers will know of the blistering heat wave scorching the central & eastern US.
Temps reached 105F today where I live. I've no clue of the official heat index, but I'm guessing about 120F to 125F.
Now, one would think that blistering heat like this is great weather for outdoor primering of minis.
You'd be wrong. I primered 4 minis yesterday, all being in direct sunlight, at a temp of about 95F.
Unfortunately, the humidity was bout 70%+.
After 30 minutes, the minis were still tacky wet, AND were almost too hot to handle.
I brought them in the air conditioned house and even after 3 hours in front of a fan, they were still tacky to the touch.
So it goes to show ya... humidity is more important than temp when it comes to painting.

My apologies for the [s]ridiculously late[/s] VERY EARLY post.
I spent most of my weekend trying not to melt in the heat.
I really should buy stock in the Electric company... really should...
anyway...
I didn't get a single thing done to the Warhammer over the weekend.
Instead I got started on a JAVELIN and a LOCUST for the same unit.
Both are PlasTech, but the flash isn't too bad, and the sculpts are nice and crisp.
Got both primered, then silver base coated.
Then I realized that the remainder of the Green ink wash had spilled and dried out.
So I had to try to mix a new batch.
Happily, I think the new batch is better than the old.
Only the finished product will tell.
Found a really great thread over at the CBT.com forums...

Sorry about that, Folks.
My quiet evening got busy in a hurry.
I was called away because the Son&Heir ran the lawn tractor into the shed.
Apparently, the clutch locked up on him.
Probably because he tends to ride the clutch.
Everyone is fine, but the shed has a lovely new scrape.
eh, it needs a new coat of paint anyway.
I ought to go work for SherwinWilliams, with all the work I do with paint.
Anyway, about those ReSeens.
I now have 3 RS Locusts, 2 RS Phoenix Hawks, a RS Thunderbolt (from rpgsheets), and 2 RS Battlemasters.
And I am finding myself not to much repulsed by these ReSeens.
but here is where it gets odd...
one of the Mechs I got the other day is a RS Mix-n-Match.
upper half is a RS Wolverine
lower half is a RS Battlemaster
Now, obviously, this wasn't a NiB Mech.
So anyone wanna trade Halves?
Since I don't have a Wolverine, I'd like to trade the Battlemaster Lower for a Wolverine Lower.
jeez... sounds like I'm dealing in gun parts....
I spent the rest of the evening cleaning up a laptop.
Please y'all: do yourselves a favor::

Greetings Readers.
It's been a busy 2 days.
beta testing equipment.
Would like to send out a shout out:
eBay seller NeutralzoneTim.
Excellent seller. USPS lost the original shipment, and Tim has replaced the lost minis without any trouble.
Now THAT is great customer service. It's very nice to see these days.
Did take a few minutes over the weekend to do some tweaking to my Warhammer.
As you can see in the picture below, there are large gaps between the shoulder spacers and the main body.
What Iv'e done is fill those gaps with green stuff & file it to fit.
Additionally, I've used green stuff to put detail on the spotlight and the SRM pack.
As soon as I get pix, I'll post them. In the meantime, you can clearly see where the improvements are needed.
That is all I've got time for now.
Will try to get more pix posted tonight.

Welpers, I got my physicals' results back today.
I'm 40 lbs. overweight and my cholesterol is hideous.
My personal RN has proceeded to scourge me for being in poor shape.
but ... but ROUND is a shape.
Additionally, I've been informed that I will need to take a physical capabilities test:
While wearing full Kevlar PPE, carry a 75 lb. ruck one mile within 20 minutes.
my back hurts just pondering this...
But I think i can do this: I was able to carry full riot kit for a mile in 10:45 minutes back in the day.
*does some math... *
14 years ago ????
oh well... Nuthin' to it but to do it.
In the meantime, because it is raining cats-n-dogs here today...
I'll be at my worktable, trying to get some painting and sculpting done.

Seems like this current job is following the military model:
"Hurry up and wait."
I'm currently in the "hurry up mode".

be warned:
1. they are smaller than standard BT scale of 1/285 - 1/300th.
2. several do require drilling and pinning to assemble.
However, I do like the consistency of the plastic used. It feels very dense and solid.
They aren't rubbery like the 25th anniversary product.
When finished, these minis will be added to my kit for demo-img BT.
I haven't worked on my WHM in days, but hope to spend an hour on it Sunday.

Hello All,
Spent yesterday in meetings and it looks like more meetings for today thru Thursday.
Did manage to get some Mechs primered yesterday,
but once again, humidity is killer.
dagnab Virginia summer....
it's like trying to paint in the sauna.
the primer did adhere, but 12 hours later, the primer is still tacky to the touch.
5 hours of this meeting already ... aahhrrg.

Hello all,
Was able to take some time tonight to put some paint on a mini.
Unfortunately, not my Warhammer.
I came across a pack of 6 of these artillery tanks last time I was at Game Vault.
They're meant for the Dystopian Wars game system, but they fit lovely as BT scale Artillery tanks.
the mini in question:
The Kingdom of Brittania Cromwell Bombard.
The above picture isn't mine ... my camera is being funky.
But as you can see, these are lovely detailed minis.
For those of us who enjoy beating our Clan opponents over the head with artillery, THESE are really heaven sent.
Here are my specs for a Cromwell Bombard tank....
At less than a Million Cbills and 205 BV, a lance of these are a bargain for lower tech worlds militia.
I can really see QuikCell pumping these out like candy.

I must have really good artistic taste.
I do have a pair of these I'll be attempting to paint on a desert camo.
